Smart bumper performer LUTINEBELLA sets the bar fairly high if judged on her Exeter hurdle win in November and will find this easier than the Listed race she contested last time. There might well be more to come from Nicky Henderson’s runner Marmalaid but the bare form of her win at Ffos Las last May is not anything to get excited about.
This can go to Nick Gifford’s veteran PADDYS POEM (NAP), who ran quite a bit better than his finishing position suggests when fifth on his recent seasonal debut and is sure to appreciate today’s ease in grade. Generous Day, another class-dropper, is feared most ahead of For Langy.
There is no strong temptation to oppose thriving 7yo SUBLIME HEIGHTS, who won very comfortably by 11l here three weeks ago and now bids to complete a C&D hat-trick. Old Painless needs to put a below-par run behind him but he made a promising start to his chasing career in December and is feared most.

Recent C&D winner Gold Clermont is not very reliable and his 7lb penalty might leave him vulnerable anyway, so the pair to focus on could be FELTON BELLEVUE and Delgany Monarch. Both were placed in the same Lingfield race four weeks ago but preference is for Felton Bellevue, who seems to have benefited from a wind op.
Good Time Ahead could arguably have been raised more than 6lb for last month’s emphatic Lingfield win and is not opposed lightly, but fairly useful Flat-racer DOWNSMAN has shown enough in his three qualifying runs over hurdles to suggest he can be a potent threat in this grade of handicap hurdle, and he gets the vote. Martin Spirit can also feature.
