Hurricanes vs Flyers Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

Cam Atkinson has been one of Philadelphia's driving forces on offense and has been racking up the shots on net. With the Carolina Hurricanes struggling in net, could the Flyers maintain their surprise early success? Our betting picks investigate.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Philadelphia Flyers face off in a matchup between two of the Top 3 Metropolitan Division teams tonight. Many expected Carolina to be among the best teams in the Metropolitan but Philadelphia has had an unexpected first quarter of the season.

The Flyers took down the Islanders in a shootout on Saturday night to end their two-game skid — they previously won five straight, including 3-1 in Carolina. The Canes have bounced back from a rocky start to the season to win three of their last four, and they're 9-4-0 in their last 13 contests — including a 3-2 win in Philadelphia.

Let's look at the latest NHL odds to see which Metropolitan team is poised to come out on top in the third matchup of the season. Read on for our Hurricanes vs. Flyers NHL picks on Tuesday, November 28.

Hurricanes vs Flyers predictions

The Philadelphia Flyers' surprising start to the season is due in part to the return of a few veteran players. Both center Sean Couturier and winger Cam Atkinson have 14 points in the early going and are helping the players around them as well.

One weapon that Atkinson has used a lot this season is his shot. He has 66 shots on goal through 21 games this season — two shy of Owen Tippett for the team lead. Atkinson has been shooting a lot recently with five, four, and four SOG in his last three games, respectively.

The veteran winger is averaging just over three shots per game and has reached that three-shot threshold in 15 of 21 games, including 8 of 10 at home.

Atkinson has shown that home-road disparity against the Carolina Hurricanes this season already with three shots at home and zero shots down in Carolina during the first two meetings.

He continues to be a big part of the Flyers' top-six forward group and is on the top power-play unit as well.

DraftKings is offering Atkinson Over 2.5 shots on goal at +100 while it’s as short as -122 on FanDuel. Take advantage of that price disparity and back Atkinson to fire a handful of shots on net tonight.

My best bet: Cam Atkinson Over 2.5 shots on goal (+100 at DraftKings)

Hurricanes vs Flyers same-game parlay

Cam Atkinson Over 2.5 shots on goal

Flyers moneyline

Under 5.5

Philadelphia may only be 5-5-0 at home but Carolina is 5-6-0 on the road as opposed to 7-2-0 at home. On top of that, the Flyers have actually been the more consistent team recently with wins in six of their last eight — and those two losses were close against division rivals.

More importantly, this Hurricanes team has been incredibly inconsistent. They are 4-3-0 in their last seven games, including a 3-1 loss to the Flyers.

Carolina may be one of the best xGF% teams in the league, but so is Philadelphia. The Hurricanes rank second in that category at 56.83% but the Flyers aren't too far behind at 53.6% (seventh).

The big difference is in goal. Carter Hart (6-5-0, 2.53 GAA, .911 SV%) has been stellar for the Flyers and should get the start tonight. Meanwhile, neither Antti Raanta (6-3-0, 3.47 GAA, .854%) nor Pyotr Kochetkov (2-4-0, 2.91 GAA, .881 SV%) have been particularly strong.

Finally, we’re going to go with the Under 5.5 to close out the parlay. These teams rank second and third in xGA/60 and don't surrender a lot of chances. This should be a hard-fought game with limited time and space for both offenses, much like their first two meetings this season.

Both teams have also been trending toward the Under recently — Carolina has gone Under in four of its last six games and Philadelphia in five of its last seven.
