Krylov vs Spann Odds: Bet On A KO Win For Superman

As fight fans await a superfight between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane, there’s a solid Fight Night appetizer on February 25. Light heavyweights Ryan Spann (21-7, 7-2 UFC) and Nikita Krylov (29-9, 10-7 UFC) will fight to move up the rankings in the main event of UFC Vegas 70. 

The five-round bout between Spann and Krylov takes place at the UFC Apex with the prelim fights beginning at 4 p.m. ET and the main card starting at 8 p.m.

Krylov is the -170 favorite, while Spann comes in as the +140 underdog. That means a $10 bet on him pays out $15.88 (a return of your original $10 plus $5.88 in profit). Spann’s +140 odds imply a 41.67 percent win probability and a $10 bet on the underdog pays out $24.

Krylov vs Spann Preview: Who Will Win?

The Krylov vs Spann odds give us an idea of how the fight will go, but let’s examine each fighter’s style. 

What Krylov Does Well

“The Miner” is one of the most well-rounded light heavyweights in the 205-pound division. The owner of eight UFC stoppages (four KO, four SUB), Krylov is dangerous enough to get a knockout but also knows when to wrestle his way to a decision victory. For example, he landed seven takedowns in his last fight vs Volkan Oezdemir at UFC 280, neutralizing his opponent’s power, while attempting one submission.

In his first crack at a UFC main event, Krylov needs to use that same recipe to beat Spann, one of the more terrifying light heavyweights on the planet. “Superman” is explosive and has a nasty guillotine choke, but Krylov is way more experienced, hence his chalk status. To win Saturday, the 30-year-old must eliminate the space between himself and Spann (like he did with Johnny Walker in 2020), repeatedly press his opponent against the cage and do his best to tire Spann out. 

What Spann Does Well

Spann is a killer – his punches do more damage than most fighters on the UFC roster. His last fight vs Dominick Reyes at UFC 281 was a great example, as the 31-year-old wasted Reyes with a power jab, knocking the former title contender out cold.

Against Krylov, Spann needs to stay composed and preserve his energy. Krylov will wait and pick his moments for a takedown, so Spann needs to be ready to defend those shots. If the fight stays upright, though, Superman is poised to win. His 81.5-inch reach (four inches longer than Krylov’s) always gives him the upper hand, and, as I said before, those long arms pose a wicked guillotine threat. It only takes a few blasts for Spann to hand his opponents a one-way ticket to the shadow realm. Krylov could easily be the next passenger on Spann’s KO manifest. 

Krylov vs Spann Pick

I’m a believer in flashy talent winning out, especially at this weight class. Krylov is tricky and will presumably hold a grappling advantage over Spann. At the same time, I think Spann can rise to title contender status coming off the Reyes knockout. His physical tools are terrifying and he’s taking his training more seriously nowadays, which bodes well in a potential cardio contest vs Krylov.

My bet is on Spann to win inside the distance (odds TBD). That should offer some extra value to his already tasty underdog status. Since Spann is also a notorious first-round finisher, I like value bets on Spann to win in Round 1 (odds TBD) and Spann to win in Round 2 (odds TBD).

On top of that, the UNDER 1.5 rounds (-130) is a good pick.
