Marquez Valdes-Scantling props: Long-shot bet for Super Bowl 2024

Much has been said about the struggles of the Kansas City Chiefs’ receiving corp.

But as the season went on, the group has vastly improved.

Rashee Rice was one of the breakout stars of the second half.

Travis Kelce, after a disappointing regular season, has 23 catches during the Chiefs’ three playoff games.

And of late, Mahomes has added another deep threat to his weapons arsenal: Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Valdes-Scantling has been a big-play machine during Kansas City’s playoff run, which could provide massive value to sharp bettors if that continues during Super Bowl 2024.

The veteran wideout had two 30-plus-yard catches during the Chiefs’ win over the Ravens during the AFC Championship game.

He also added a 32-yard reception against the Bills during the divisional round.

The 49ers’ secondary has been soft during the postseason, allowing three 20-plus-yard passes against both the Packers and Lions.

I like Valdes-Scantling’s prospects across the board, so there are a few ways you can play this.

His longest reception is sitting at just 14.5 yards (-105, Caesars Sportsbook) and his total receiving yard over/under isn’t much higher at 18.5 yards (-110, FanDuel Sportsbook).

With an average depth of target as deep as his, it may only take one catch for him to hit the over on both of these.

But there’s another way you can bet on Valdes-Scantling’s chances for a big play or two that provides much more appealing odds.

Valdes-Scantling is +850, the sixth-best odds at FanDuel, to have the longest reception of the game, despite being a much bigger deep threat than Kelce and Rice, who are above him on the board.

Valdes-Scantling’s six 30-plus-yard catches this season are nearly as many as Kelce (two) and Rice (five) combined.

For this one to hit, the Chiefs’ defense will have to continue what was its greatest strength this season, which was limiting explosive plays in the passing game, as Brandon Ayiuk, Deebo Samuel and George Kittle are all more than capable of ripping off a massive reception.

Even with that competition, these odds are hard to pass up.

Bet: Marquez Valdes-Scantling Longest Receptions (+850, FanDuel)
