Meijer LPGA Classic betting preview: Odds and predictions

Not to brag, but I might just be an LPGA sharp.

I have given you, the people, back-to-back outright winners. Two weeks ago it was Rose Zhang at 42/1 for the Mizuho Americas Open, then last week I gave you Ashleigh Buhai at 16/1 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Can we make it three straight? Probably not, but I’m going to try my best.

This week, it’s the Meijer LPGA Classic at Blythefield Country Club in Michigan. Let’s dive into the top 10 odds to win and then I’ll give you my picks.

Meijer LPGA Classic picks to win

Leona Maguire +1600

Leona Maguire is the perfect combination of a history of course success and recent form. She has competed at this event twice, finishing in second place both times. She’s also coming into this year’s edition of the event in great form, finishing third at the match play event and then finishing T7 at the Mizuho Americas Open.

She has climbed up the leaderboard in total strokes gained through the past month and now sits at 24th heading into this week.

Ashleigh Buhai +2000

The continued disrespect for Ashleigh Buhai is insane. This is now the third week in a row that I’m betting on her, but I can’t help myself when I genuinely believe that the oddsmakers are mispricing her.

She’s fifth on the LPGA in strokes gained: approach and she’s been playing some of the best golf in her career. If there’s one knock against her this week it’s a complete lack of success at this course in the past, but based on how she’s been playing this season, I don’t think it’s fair to dock her points for how she has performed her in previous seasons.

Jennifer Kupcho +2800

The defending champion of the event is available at 28/1, which makes it a no-brainer for me. Blythefield Country Club is a longer than average course for an LPGA event, coming in at 6,638 yards. So, long drivers generally have an advantage here and Kupcho comes in at 43rd in average driving distance.

She’s not the only long driver to have success here. Brooke Henderson has won here twice and Lexi Thompson won it in 2015.

Kupcho has also been in great form, losing to Rose Zhang in a playoff at the Mizuho Americas Open. It could be a good time to bet on the defending champ.
