Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction 05-21-2023 MLB Picks

The Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels meet Sunday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Angels eked out a win on Friday, then in Saturday’s game two the Twins evened it up with a victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Minnesota Twins

The Twins had a brief 4-3 lead in the Friday opener of this series but ended up falling 5-4. On Saturday, Minnesota posted 12 team hits in a 6-2 win. Louie Varland managed 5.0 innings, six hits, two earned and a walk in the start.

For starter duties in the finale the Twins will turn to Pablo Lopez. Over his nine starts this year Lopez is 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA and 66 Ks in 54.0 innings. In his career Lopez is 30-33 with a 3.94 ERA in 103 starts.

Los Angeles Angels

Over on the Angels’ side, they out-hit the Twins 10-6 in the Friday victory. On Saturday Los Angeles gave up three runs in the first inning during the loss. Starter Patrick Sandoval lasted 4.2 frames with five hits, three earned and four walks.

Shohei Ohtani will make the start for the Angels on Sunday. In his nine starts so far Ohtani is 5-1 with a 3.23 ERA and 71 Ks in 53.0 innings. Ohtani is 33-15 with a 3.00 ERA in his career over 72 starts.

The Twins are 17-40 in their last 57 road games and 3-10 in their last 13 versus the AL West. Minnesota is 8-23 in their last 31 road games versus a team with a winning record.

Meanwhile, the Angels are 0-4 in their last four in game three of a series and 13-4 in their last 17 at home versus a right-handed starter. The under is 4-1 in LA’s last five Sunday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll take a stab on the Twins here. Probably not touching it, though. Lopez is coming off a rough start (five earned in 4.2 innings) against the Dodgers, but in his two starts before Lopez had a combined three earned in 13.1 innings. As for Ohtani, he’s given up 12 earned over his last 19.0 innings. On Saturday Minnesota got off to a nice start, then the bullpen took over the rest of the way. If the Twins can get a quality outing from Lopez in the finale they should be fine.
