Johnny Burke's horse Queens Gamble was exceptional on her debut at Cheltenham. She is a daughter of Getaway from a winning mare which the owners raced with Jessica Harrington. The horse won the race by eight lengths. Balmer's Combe, ridden by Oliver Sherwood, won at Kempton. Teddy Davis of the Chester Chronicle was in the betting table. He was a former rider. His name was called Balmers. It was the name of a horse he rode in his riding days. This year's Derby winner was Desert Crown, trained by Sir Michael Stoute. John Henry Cecil's horses were trained late in their careers by Frankel and Desert crown.
