New Zealand to compete in Under-19 Women’s Tri-Series tournament in Mumbai

The women's U19 cricket world is going from strength to strength. India is hosting mini-tournaments in Mumbai. New Zealand will play in two of them. The mini tournaments will prepare the teams for the U 19s T20 World Cup in January.

The inaugural women's T20 World Cup will be played in South Africa from 14 to 19 January. It will feature 16 teams, including India, New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka. The teams are preparing for the tournament by playing mini tournaments in India in November and December.  Indonesia, Scotland, Rwanda and the UAE earned a spot as part of separate qualifying tournaments.

Two pre-World Cup tournaments to be held in Mumbai. BCCI wants to build their cricket reputation. Cricket is the most popular sport in India. The BCCi is holding the tournaments in order to boost the awareness of women's cricket.

India has two teams in the tri-series tournament. The other teams are West Indies and New Zealand. Both teams qualified directly for the T20 World Cup.

The two tri-series tournaments will take place between 27 November and 6 December. New Zealand will play against Indian women’s U19 teams in five matches. The games will be played at the DY Patil Stadium and BKC Stadium. There is also a quadrangular tournament for U 19s taking place in Mumbai between 13 and 19 November.
