  • IOWA: The Hawkeyes suffered a total annihilation at Penn State in one of the worst losses of the Kirk Ferentz era. Drew Allar threw for four touchdowns and Penn State’s defense forced four turnovers to lead the seventh-ranked Nittany Lions past No. 24 Iowa 31-0. Tyler Warren caught two touchdowns and Khalil Dinkins and KeAndre Lambert-Smith each caught one for the Nittany Lions. They possessed the ball for more than 42 minutes. Linebacker Curtis Jacobs recovered two fumbles and Adisa Isaac and Zuriah Fisher grabbed each grabbed loose balls for a Penn State defense that allowed just 76 total yards. Iowa had not been shut out since Ferentz's second season at the helm, in 2000.
  • MICHIGAN STATE: Taulia Tagovailoa threw for three touchdowns and also ran for another and Maryland's defense forced five turnovers Saturday as the Terrapins beat Michigan State 31-9. Tagovailoa completed 21 of 36 passes for 223 yards to lead the Terrapins to touchdowns on three of their four first-half drives. Maryland's defense forced three interceptions and two fumbles. The Spartans have dropped their first two games under interim coach Harlon Barnett. Coach Mel Tucker was suspended Sept. 10 pending the results of an outside investigation into a report that he sexually harassed activist and rape survivor Brenda Tracy. Michigan State has said Tucker will be fired. Tucker and his attorney wrote Monday in a 25-page letter that Michigan State has no basis to fire him for cause, excoriating the university for what they called an unfair and biased investigation into sexual harassment allegations.
