QPR vs. Norwich Odds, Predictions & Betting Tips

QPR do battle with fellow Championship side Norwich in the Carabao Cup first round on Wednesday night at Loftus Road.

Tom Winch is on hand to guide you through the preview and offer his two best bets for this mid-week cup clash.

The Carabao Cup is never the easiest of tournaments to predict, especially in advance before the teams are announced, but with the 2023/24 season still in its very early stages, I’d expect plenty of sides to make little changes as they’ll want to maintain momentum in the opening few weeks.

We all know about QPR's diabolical second half of the 2022/23 campaign. They earned the least points and scored the fewest goals whilst shipping the most at the other end across the last 30 Championship outings.

Norwich ended their 2022/23 campaign in 13th, considerably lower than many expected. They too had an underwhelming end to the season which saw them record just a single win in 11.

David Wagner’s side enjoyed a strong preseason and have started the current campaign with a victory over Hull and a blockbuster 4-4 draw at St Mary’s.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side are currently priced at 13/5 to win here whilst the Canaries are around the even money mark. I don’t think there’s any argument on those prices given the current situation of the clubs.

QPR vs Norwich Tips

Norwich Over 1.5 Goals

From an attacking perspective, Norwich have been really impressive in their opening two Championship outings.

Wagner’s side recorded 28 shots, created four big chances, and accumulated 2.73xG in their opener. At Southampton, they had 15 shots, a massive six big chances with 2.06xG.

The R’s suffered an opening day battering from Watford who created 2.95xG on the day, more than any other side across the EFL that weekend.

Despite beating Cardiff, the Welsh side racked up 2.06xG with 15 shots at four big chances. Grim readings if you’re a QPR fan.

Jonathan Rowe to score

The 4/1 anytime goalscorer on offer on a player who has started the season immensely does stand out.

Jonathan Rowe has bagged in both games this campaign, with each goal coming within first-half injury time - the extra added minutes will always benefit the goal backers.

Of course, with it being a cup tie there’s no confirmation that the 20-year-old will start but you’d think he’ll get the nod from Wagner once again.

The Englishman has recorded five shots so far this season, with two of those hitting the target. He spent a large part of last season injured and you could say that he’s making up for lost time and will be keen to kick on.

This clash should be a decent watch, Norwich should be expected to come here and control the contest with the quality they possess. If they can continue to create plenty of goalscoring opportunities then the 4/1 selection looks like a great price in the capital.
