Royal Ascot Betting Tips: Our Best Bets For Day 5 At The Meeting

Royal Ascot Day 5 Tips:

After four fantastic days of racing at Royal Ascot we are looking forward to the final day of the meeting.

Many punters are looking beyond the favourites and instead hunting down some winners at a big price with online bookmakers.

In this article, we take a look through the Day 5 racecard at Royal Ascot and identify a number of selections which should be able to go well at a nice price.

14:30 - Chesham Stakes

Aidan O’Brien has won the Chesham Stakes six times, including two of the last three renewals, and the Ballydoyle maestro looks well placed to enhance that record in 2023.

Pearls And Rubies looks sure to relish the step up to 7f after flying home to score over 5f recently, but it would be unwise to ignore the claims of stablemate Content, who also shaped particularly well on debut (7f) despite not winning.

The light-framed daughter of Galileo wasn’t given a hard time by Wayne Lordan but his mount picked up nicely behind highly regarded stablemate Buttons and was only beaten around a neck at the line.

It’s likely that run will bring her on a good deal and although she still has a lot of physical growing to do, she’s been given a Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes entry by the Coolmore team so she is clearly impressing at home.

She rates a better value play than stablemate Pearls And Rubies.

15:05 - Jersey Stakes

The 7f trip doesn’t look ideal for a few of the leading contenders here but that isn’t the case for Olivia Maralda who also gets her preferred conditions as she looks to build on her Listed success at Epsom.

The Amo Racing filly couldn’t show her best form on soft ground in the Guineas but she left that form well behind her back on faster terrain.

At Epsom she came home strongly from off the pace to score in emphatic fashion, posting a strong time performance in the process.

That career-best effort strongly indicates this filly is really coming to herself now and everything looks right for her to run a big race for the Roger Varian team.

15:40 Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes

There are question marks of one sort or another about a whole host of these and the most solid option, by some way, is Highfield Princess who can atone for her narrow defeat in Tuesday’s King’s Stand Stakes.

The return to 6f won’t be an issue for this hugely versatile mare who would have at least got closer to Bradsell had she not been badly hampered by that rival in the closing stages of Tuesday’s Group 1 contest.

Given the winner is a hugely talented sprinter that has posted a clear career-best, there is no reason to think that Highfield Princess hasn’t run right up to form.

This tough mare won’t have any problem with the quick turnaround so a performance anywhere near her best will ensure she goes close again and the 11/2 with horse racing betting sites makes plenty of appeal.

16:20 - Hardwicke Stakes

With fast ground a potential drawback for Hukum, who otherwise holds strong claims, the most appealing contender here is the prolific Free Wind, who can give Frankie Dettori a final-day winner.

A multiple scorer at this level, Free Wind ultimately had a fair bit in hand when landing the Middleton Stakes at York on reappearance and that form took a major boost earlier this week when runner-up Rogue Millennium came out and won the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes.

Free Wind excels on galloping tracks so Ascot should suit her well and although she is tackling male opposition for the first time since her maiden win, this looks a really good opening for a mare that surely has a top-level prize in her at some stage.

The John & Thady Gosden team have scooped some big prizes this week and Free Wind can bolster the stable fortunes further.

17:00 - Wokingham Stakes

A typically hazardous puzzle to solve but Fresh has a cracking record in these sorts of races and he makes a good deal of appeal at 16/1 with betting apps now back on a sound surface.

The selection was only beaten a neck by Rohaan in the 2021 renewal of this contest and his seasonal reappearance in a red-hot handicap at Kempton earlier this term strongly indicated that he was in for another good season.

A subsequent blow-out at this track can be ignored because he was never travelling on bad ground and he’s surely had this as his big summer target for a while now.

Fresh has a brilliant record in handicaps on the straight course at Ascot, indeed he has won or finished in the first three in six of his 11 runs at the track, which is no mean feat given the strength in depth of most big-field handicaps at this track.

James Fanshawe has been among the winners in the last fortnight and Fresh goes to Ascot with cracking claims of another big-race success.
