Tuesday's NHL: Rangers name Rochester native Jacob Trouba captain

Jacob Trouba was named captain of the New York Rangers. He is the 28th captain in the franchise history. Troubba is a Rochester native and former Wolverines defenseman. The 28-year-old was acquired from Winnipeg in June 2019. He has totaled 20 goals and 58 assists in 189 games over the last three seasons with the Rangers and was an alternate captain the past two seasons. Last season he had a career-high 11 goals, 28 assists and a plus-minus rating of plus 25 in 81 games. Jared Spurgeon (Minnesota), Roman Josi (Nashville) and Troubi are the other defensemen currently serving as captain.

Martin Necas has been re-signed by the Carolina Hurricanes to a two-year, $6 million contract. Neca was drafted by Carolina in the first round of the 2017 draft. He has 45 goals in 203 NHL games with Carolina.  Necas is regarded as a key piece for the team's future with speed and skill.

Dave Lowry has been added to the Seattle Kraken's coaching staff. He spent most of last season as the interim head coach for the Winnipeg Jets. Lowry spent 19 seasons as a player in the NHL with Vancouver, Calgary, St. Louis, Florida and San Jose.
