Twins vs. Tigers prediction and odds for Wednesday, August 9 (Minnesota Bounce Back)

Yesterday the Detroit Tigers beat the Minnesota Twins 6-0 and that ended a five-game win streak for the Twins that helped them build a lead in the AL Central. That lead currently sits at 4.5 games over the Guardians with Minnesota 60-55 heading into Game 3 of this four-game series in Detroit. The Tigers are 50-63. 

For Game 3 we’ll see Bailey Ober against Alex Faedo on the mound. Ober is 6-5 in 18 starts with a 3.21 ERA. The Tigers recalled Faedo from Triple-A and he’ll make just his eighth start of the season. In his previous seven he went 2-4 with a 5.80 ERA. 

The Twins are looking to start another win streak as they continue to separate from the worst division in baseball and they’re favored tonight on the road. 

Minnesota just ran into Eduardo Rodriguez last night. That was all that happened. Sonny Gray had a good start and gave them a chance to win, but the Twins are one of the worst teams at hitting left-handed pitching in baseball this year, so Rodriguez took advantage of that weakness going seven scoreless. Today things will be a lot easier for Minnesota against Faedo. 

Going forward that’s a big issue for Minnesota, one they should’ve addressed at the deadline, but for today against the right-handed Faedo they should be fine. Faedo wasn’t awful in his short stint with the big league club earlier this year, but he could’ve been a lot better. He has 30 strikeouts to eight walks in 35.2 innings this year and a 4.81 FIP. The 27-year-old also has a 4.00 xERA and his biggest issue is a 25th percentile xSLG of .441. 

I wouldn’t be surprised if Faedo is solid in this start, but he probably won’t be as good as Bailey Ober. Neither starter will last very long and Minnesota has a slight edge in the bullpen. The Twins also have the better lineup, over the last 30 days the Tigers are 28th in team OPS.
