Vance Joseph, a quarterback at his soul, has seen the shift from Kordell Stewart to Lamar Jackson

Vance Joseph has been a defensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals for nearly 20 years. He is a former high school quarterback who played option quarterback at Colorado. Joseph was pushed to change his position as a sophomore by the wide receiver coach. He has lived through a time when African Americans were penalized for being too athletic. Now, at 50, he has coached long enough to see a transition where athleticism at the position is embraced. The evolution of Black quarterbacks has played a role in facilitating that transition. It's a good thing for football. For Joseph, it's good to be a coach of a quarterback.
