Wild vs Rangers Prediction & Pick (Nov. 9)

Tonight’s game is the second meeting between these teams in five days, previously meeting at Xcel Energy Center. Despite being up 3-0 at one point, the Rangers couldn’t hold on to the lead as they went on to suffer a 5-4 shootout loss to the Wild.

The victory was a big one for a Minnesota club that headed into that game on a four-game losing streak. Having said that, winning again tonight won’t be as easy.

After all, the Rangers now have the home-ice advantage. They’re 3-1-0 at Madison Square Garden this season, holding opponents to an average of 2.3 goals in those contests. That isn’t promising for the Wild, who’ve tasted defeat in four of six road outings thus far.

Minnesota’s Filip Gustavsson has been struggling between the pipes. On top of owning a 5.83 goals-against average and .829 save percentage in his last four appearances, he’s 0-2-0 with a 6.50 GAA and .809 SV% on the road this season.

With Igor Shesterkin likely sidelined again with soreness, Jonathan Quick is likely starting in goal for the Rangers tonight. The two-time Stanley Cup winner has turned back the clock this year, playing to a 3-0-1 record, 1.77 GAA, and .936 SV% with one shutout in five games.

Furthermore, Quick tends to perform well against the Wild. In his last six starts against Minnesota, the 37-year-old netminder has backstopped his way to a 1.83 GAA and .939 SV% with two shutout victories.

On top of that, the special teams advantages also go to the Rangers. New York owns the second-best power play and eighth-best penalty kill while Minnesota ranks 23rd and 32nd, respectively.

After blowing a lead to the Wild over the weekend, I’m backing the Rangers to get their win back tonight. Not only will motivation play a factor, but so will the fact that New York is better than Minnesota in multiple areas, including special teams and between the goalposts.

Nevertheless, I’m also taking the Over on the 6.5-goal total. Nine of the Wild’s last 11 games featured more than 6.5 goals while both of the Rangers’ last two games saw exactly eight goals scored. With the Over also being 5-1 in the last six tilts between these clubs, expect offense to be on the menu.

Wild vs Rangers Prediction: NYR wins

Best Bet: o6.5 Total Goals (+100 on Bovada)

Wild vs Rangers Best Player Prop

I’m going with Vincent Trocheck scoring at least one goal as my best Wild vs. Rangers player prop.

Trocheck has played well at Madison Square Garden this season, being tied with Chris Kreider for the team lead in goals with three in four home games. He now has four goals in his last six home outings dating back to the 2022-23 campaign.

Playing 20-plus minutes in each of his last three outings, Trocheck should see more than enough ice time to find the back of the twine tonight.
