Wild vs. Stars prediction and odds for NHL playoffs Game 1

The Minnesota Wild and Dallas Stars will face-off in the first round of the NHL Playoffs, with Dallas claiming the No. 2 seed in the Central Division.

Both teams suffered first round losses last year, with the Wild being eliminated by the St. Louis Blues and the Stars losing to the Calgary Flames in seven games.

Now, the two teams will face each other in what is projected to be one of the closest series of the opening round.

Let’s dive into the odds for Monday night’s Game 1 and then I’ll give you my best bet.

Wild vs. Stars odds, puck line, and total

Wild vs. Stars prediction and pick

This series is a battle between two of the best defensive teams in the NHL, but it’s the Stars who have a significant offensive advantage. They ranked 10th in the league in expected goals per 60 minutes, while the Wild come in at 18th. Dallas is also seventh in shooting percentage while Minnesota is only 24th.

The Stars won the season series this year, going 2-1 against the Wild in their three game series.

Dallas also boasts one of the best young goaltenders in the NHL in Jake Oettinger, who almost carried the Stars all the way to a first round series upset against the Flames last year. He stood on his head between the pipes, and I expect the same this postseason.

The offensive advantage for the Stars is going to be relevant tonight, and I’ll back Dallas to win on the moneyline.
