2014 Pacific Classic: Entries, Post Positions & Odds
The Pacific Classic takes place at Del Mar on Sunday. The main event is a match up between the "Old Pro", Game On Dude, and the "Young Whippersnapper", Shared Belief.
Frac Daddy is a colt that seems to run the same race just about every time out. He's a hard colto love in this race, but he's definitely a horse to use in exotic plays.
Irish Surf is 8/1 on the ML and Frac Daddy is 15/ 1. I've got their odds almost reversed on my line.
The winner of the Charles Town Classic will show up at Del Mar. Game On Dude won the San Diego Handicap last time out.
Ice Cream Truck is a longshot who broke his maiden four starts ago. He was third in the 12 furlong Cougar II. He just had to grind his way to the finish.
Game On Dude is getting older and his best days are behind him. He's less versatile now than at any other time in his career. If he gets things his own way in the early stages, he's still good enough to beat this field. There's not a lot of top-level early speed in this race.
Frac Daddy and You Know I Know are both the same price on the ML, 15/1. You know I know has a better shot to win this race unless things get messy in the latter stages.
Majestic Harbor is 9/2 on the morning line for the Pacific Classic. Majestic Harbour won the Gold Cup in 2013. He's versatile enough to sit several lengths off the pace or right up top. The Poly is a track that doesn't translate to early speed on race day.
Toast of New York is the 8th horse in the Pacific Classic. He won his first two races on synthetic tracks in Europe and the UAE. The early fractions in England tend to be more reserved than in North America.
Clubhouse Ride has five wins in 38 lifetime starts. He's a better horse on dirt than on synthetics. Clubhouse ride is essentially the same horse as Frac Daddy on the odds line.
Mystery Train is a 10-1 outsider in the Pacific Classic. He's never run on Poly and he's had just three works at Del Mar leading up to this race.
Shared Belief has won five races and is the juvenile champion. He's won on synthetics and dirt. Shared Belief is going to take a lot of money in the Pacific Classic. The winner will be more important to play at the Breeders' Cup.
The Pacific Classic is taking place on a synthetic surface. Frac Daddy is the rail horse that I like the most. The race is an excellent chance to get a better picture of Shared Belief's talent.
