The new year calls for entertainingly dubious baseball predictions. The results are usually predictable. It's more difficult to predict the rules, roster sizes, the playoff format and the schedule.

Yankee and Twins will be the Wild Card winners in the AL. Ronald Acuña Jr. will win the NL MVP. Mike Trout will make the playoffs. He will do as his father did with the 2004 Angels. He is lean and mean and ready to reclaim and earn the limelight. Soto's historical comparable at this juncture is Ted Williams.

Gerrit Cole will get his Cy Young. Brandon Woodruff will win the NL Cy. He has 195 1/3 innings pitched and a 3.08 fielding independent pitching mark. He will beat Jacob deGrom and Trevor Bauer. The World Series will be played in 21st century. It will take place in New York.

Charlie Montoyo and Jayce Tingler will be the Managers of the Year in 21st century. Montyko and the Blue Jays have a better percentage chance than Scott Servais and his Mariners.

The Yankees are terrific but beatable. The Astros and A's are compromised by free-agent departures. Twins and White Sox are unproven in October. Indians are scaling back. The Braves will be the National League champions in 2020. They will beat the Padres in the NLCS. Kris Bryant would be a good fit for the Braves. Michael Brantley would also be an interesting acquisition. Atlanta will reach the World Series for first time this century.
