2022 Cincinnati Reds State of the Farm: Shortstop. Shortstops are the most valuable position on the farm. Ricardo Cabrera was the Reds top international signing back in January. Leonardo Balcazar got the majority of playing time at shortstop in Goodyear at the Cincinnati farm complex in Arizona. Victor Acosta played 42 games at short during the 2022 season. He hit .322/.411/.476 with 13 stolen bases in 14 attempts. He made 12 errors and posted a .886 fielding percentage. The 18-year-old came in at #22 on just updated Reds prospect list. It's as deep of a position as I've seen in the 17 years that I'm covering the system.
Trey Faltine was selected in the 7th round of the 2022 draft out of Texas. Miguel Hernandez had a bad year with Louisville and Chattanooga. He broke his hamate and missed two-and-a-half months. Three weeks later he injured his knee and he missed the rest of his season.
The Cincinnati Reds have a strong farm with a number of prospects at shortstop. The top prospect is in this group.
