2022 Golden Slipper and All Star Mile preview
The Golden Slipper is the world's richest two-year-old race this Saturday at Rosehill. The $5 million feature has attracted some of the top juveniles from around the country. This year's field includes Coolangatta, Daumier, Revolutionary Miss and Russian Conquest. Gary Portelli has a chance to win a second Slippers with recent hat-trick winner Fireburn.
1 Daumier won the Blue Diamond Stakes last time out at Caulfield. He is hoping to complete the Golden Slipper-Blue Diamond double. He can't win as he was lucky in the Diamond and the Sydney two-year-olds are superior.
Sejardan is the winner of last year's Golden Gift. He has won three form four to begin his career. Sejardsan won the Todman Stakes at Randwick two weeks ago.
Best Of Bordeaux won the Canonbury Stakes and the Silver Slipper in succession. This horse hasn't faced a heavy track before, but relished the sting out of the ground last time out.
Shalatin finished third in the Todman Stakes two weeks ago. Shalatin is a four-start maiden that is set to peak now third-up.
Jacquinot won by a clear margin on debut at Caulfield on Boxing Day. This horse missed the start off a break in the Blue Diamond Prelude but made up a track of ground to run third to Daumier in main event two weeks later.
6. Sebonack won by over a length on debut at Caulfield and was among those hitting the line late for fourth in the Blue Diamond. This horse has drawn another awkward gate, but does have the in-form William Pike steering for the first time.
Rise of the Masses won the Pago Paga at Rosehill last Saturday. Trainer Gai Waterhouse trains one of her Golden Slipper two-year-olds.
8. Coolangatta is an undefeated filly that won the Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick last October. She has since won another Group 3 at Doomben and the Magic Millions Two-Year-old Classic on the Gold Coast. This horse hasn't raced on heavy going before and will need a touch of luck after drawing a very ugly gate.
Revolutionary Miss is a promising filly that hasn't put a foot wrong in four starts to date. She won the Blue Diamond Fillies Prelude by three-quarters of a length last month and was beaten by a lip two weeks later in the main event by Daumier. Revolutionary Miss has an awkward draw but she might be over the odds if she handles heavy going for the first.
10 Russian Conquest (16) won two races in her career. She finished second to Coolangatta in the Magic Millions Classic and fourth to Seven Veils in Reisling Stakes. Tommy Berry is the jockey for Russian Conqueror.
Queen Of The Ball won the Black Opal Stakes in Canberra on Sunday. Ms Rachel King rode her well. Queen Of the Ball finished fifth in the Silver Slipper on a wet track.
Fireburn won the Sweet Embrace Stakes three weeks ago. He is one of the top value plays. Golden Slipper and All Star Mile are on 12.2022.
13. Ojai has finished no worse than fifth in five starts to date. This horse won on debut at Randwick over much shorter.
Seven Veils won the Reisling Stakes last time out. She has made only two starts to date but could be over the odds if you can get past the ugly draw.
Lady Laguna won back-to-back starts at Eagle Farm and Rosehill to begin her career. She finished third in the Sweet Embrace Stakes.
The 2022 All Star Mile is the richest mile race in the world. Seven Veils is a good bet at $31.00. Sejardan is worth $7.20. The horse that won the Group 3 Magic Night Stakes at Rosehill last Saturday is She's Extreme.
Im Thunderstruck won at Toorak and Golden Eagle in the spring. Zaaki is Australia's best horse. Cascadian won a weak Peter Young over 1800 metres second up. Streets of Avalon is outclassed. Mr Brightside is a consistent horse from Lindsay Park. Icebath is disappointing. Callsign Mav is with Danny O’Brien at Flemington. Tofane is an absolute beauty. She will be tested by the one-mile trip. The winner of the race will not surprise me. I expect her to win.
