2022 MAC Football Week 1 Game Preview: Long Island Sharks vs Toledo Rockets

Toledo Rockets are coming off a 7-6 season. Jason Candle's team has failed to win the MAC West in each of the last four seasons. Last season Toledo led the nation in penalties. Long Island Sharks of FCS are visiting Toledo in the opening game. Long Islanders moved up from Division Two to Division One football in 2019. They play the Rockets in a game on September 21st.

Toledo has 16 starters returning on the offensive side of the ball. Sophomore quarterback Dequan Finn is the main threat for the offense. The team's running back Bryant Koback is gone. Micah Kelly will take over the running game. Defense ranked first in the MAC last season.  Long Island Sharks and Toledo Rockets play each other in a week one game in September. Long Island Sharks are a new program that has been around since 1957. They moved to the FCS in 2019. Last season they won two games. Derek Green will start at quarterback for the team. Tight end Owen Glascoe was named to Preseason all-NEC second team and running backs Jonathan DeBique and Shemar Paul are expected to be effective. The defense is not as good as last year, but it's still decent. They gave up 27.5 points and 385 yards per game last season. Larry Elder was a freshman all star. He was also named Pre Season all NEC Second Team.

Toledo has a decided talent advantage over Long Island Sharks. Dequan Finn will be the best player on the field when Toledo has the ball. The defensive line should overwhelm the Long Islanders offense.
