2022 Week 3 Preview: Marshall Thundering Herd @ Bowling Green Falcons

Marshall beat the No. 9 Notre Dame team 26-21 last week. The Thundering Herd are 2-0 and four votes shy of No 25 Oregon in the AP Poll. Bowling Green is 0-2 and hosts homecoming at “The Doyt” on Saturday. It's the Falcons first loss to FCS competition since 2017. They lost to Eastern Kentucky 59-57 in seven overtimes last Saturday in a game that was close to being decided in overtime.

Charles Huff signed a lot of players in his second offseason as the head coach of Marshall. Henry Colombi, a former Texas Tech quarterback, is the team's top passer with a completion percentage of 85.1. Rasheen Ali, the top halfback in college football, took a leave of absence for personal reasons in August. Florida State transfer Khalan Laborn is Marshall's primary running back. Labor rushed for 163 yards against Notre Dame. Talik Keaton, Corey Gammage and Devin Miller are Marshall’s other playmakers.

Bowling Green Falcons lost to an FCS team at UCLA in the second game of the season. The team is struggling to find its form after a 6-year winning streak. Matt McDonald has a career-high five touchdown passes and 283 yards through the air. Ta’ron Keith is the team's top rusher with 61 yards. Bowling Green's defense is expected to improve. The Falcons face a tough front seven in their next game against Marshall. They are one of 18 FBS teams averaging under 100 yards per game in rushing.

Marshall is coming off a win at Notre Dame and is on the road to face an 0-2 Bowling Green team. Marshall has been stellar in limiting opponents’ production in both facets. The Falcons have struggled to contain both the air and ground through two games.
