The United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) get their 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup campaign underway in Auckland, New Zealand, against Vietnam at 9 p.m. ET on Friday night.

Ranked number one in the world, the USWNT is the favorite to win the tournament and the monumental favorite to beat Vietnam in their opener.

Below are some of our best picks and predictions for the USA at this summer’s tournament. But before we get to that, now is the perfect time to activate our array of sportsbook promo codes, facilitating up to $3,750 in welcome bonuses.

As they do at most iterations of the tournament, the USA head into the 2023 World Cup as the favorites to lift the trophy, listed anywhere from +220 at Caesars to +250 at Bet365 and BetMGM at the time of writing.

That’s for a good reason: not only are they the world’s top-ranked team, but they are four-time World Cup winners. They almost always make the final, with their lowest finish being third place.

On an eight-game win streak, they kick off their tournament on Friday night against 32-ranked Vietnam in the Group E opener. Vietnam are World Cup debutants, one of many beneficiaries of the tournament’s expansion to 32 teams, and comfortably the lowest-ranked team in the USA’s group. As a result, the USWNT are huge favorites to win, listed at anywhere from -20000 at DraftKings to a massive -50000 at Bet365.

Vietnam recently lost 9-0 to Spain, so a similarly one-sided scoreline is expected. Although USWNT beat 30-ranked Wales just 2-0 in a warm-up game earlier in July, during tournament play, they are known for being ruthless and demolished Thailand (then ranked 29 in the world) 13-0 in their 2019 World Cup opener.

One risk for bettors is that USA head coach Vlatko Andonovski may decide to rest some key stars, given the gulf in class between the two teams. The starting XI will not be confirmed until shortly before kickoff, but stars, including midfielder Lindsey Horan and attackers Sophia Smith and Alex Morgan, should play.

Below are some of our picks for the game, as well as looking ahead to USWNT’s tournament chances.

The question here is not whether the USA will win but how many they will win by.

Fired by the power of some of the top goalscorers in global women’s soccer, such as Morgan and Smith, most sportsbooks are tipping the USWNT to score at least half a dozen goals in Friday’s game. Major sportsbooks, including BetMGM, Bet365, DraftKings, and FanDuel, have 6+ USA goals at around the -200 mark.

If you’re looking for a higher return, the USA to score seven or more, listed by FanDuel at +106, is incredibly attractive.

If the USWNT triumph in Australia and New Zealand this summer, they will be the first nation to win three consecutive Women’s World Cups.

They are the universal favorites to do just that, despite expected strong challenges from rivals such as European champions England, France, Germany, and more.

USA are seasoned repeat champions, littered with stars from the biggest and best leagues in world soccer, and have the sheer talent and the mental fortitude to win.

Can they be stopped? Yes.

Will it take a monumental effort from whichever teams come across them in the latter stages of the tournament? Also yes.

The USA are priced between +220 and +250 to win the tournament across the major sportsbooks, with Bet365 currently offering the best value.

Amid the USA’s seemingly perpetual production line of world-class attacking talent, one name has risen to the top in recent years: 22-year-old Sophia Smith, competing at her first World Cup this summer.

The Colorado native has starred for America’s best women’s club side, the Portland Thorns, since 2020, scoring 32 goals in her first 52 NWSL games.

In a team stacked full of creativity and support from midfield, the USA will rely heavily on the 2022 NWSL MVP and US Soccer Female Player of the Year. She is a smart bet to finish as the 2023 World Cup’s top goalscorer, even with last season’s NWSL Golden Boot winner Morgan playing alongside her.

Caesars’ and DraftKings’ odds of +600 provide great value, particularly compared to +500 at Bet365 and BetMGM and +550 at FanDuel. Morgan, for comparison, is priced between +400 and +500 to top-score at the tournament.

Caesars also has a couple of enticing team + player specials for the USWNT. The USA to win the World Cup and Morgan to win the Golden Boot is priced at +900, while the same deal is available with Smith for +1100. With the USA’s champion pedigree and arsenal of front-line talent, it’s something to consider.
