2023 Hungarian Darts Trophy Preview, Dates and Predictions

The 2023 Hungarian Darts Trophy is the penultimate tournament on the season’s PDC European Tour. When this event is in the bag, all that will remain for the long campaign is the German Darts Championship coming up in mid-October.

2023 Hungarian Darts Trophy

This is one of the newer tournaments on the PDC European Tour as the inaugural Hungarian Darts Trophy was in 2021, with Gerwyn Price winning that first edition with a big victory in the final over Michael Smith.

Last season’s edition was claimed by Joe Cullen with a victory in the Final over William O’Connor. Both previous Hungarian Darts Trophy finals finished with an 8-2 scoreline. An interesting enough mini-trend to look out for this go around in darts predictions?

Cullen is back in the field as one of the Top 16 players from the Order of Merit and will begin the campaign, along with the rest of the seeded players, in the Second Round. The top seed for Hungarian Darts Trophy 2023 betting is Dave Chisnall.

Hungarian Darts Grand Prix 2023 Tournament Details

The Hungarian Darts Grand Prix 2023 features a field of 48 players. The Top 16 players that qualified automatically because of their Order of Merit rankings, all get a First Round bye. This means that the winner of each First Round match will progress to meet one of those seeded players in the Second Round of action.

The rest of the places in the Hungarian Trophy draw are made up of players who worked their way through qualifying events, including three home-based players from the Host Nation Qualifier. The tournament is being hosted at the BOK Sportcsarnok in Budapest from September 22nd – 24th.

The prize money on offer at the 2023 Hungarian Darts Trophy is the same as for all the PDC European Tour Events. There is an overall prize pot of £175,000, with the winner walking off with a cool £30,000.

Every player who enters the draw will leave with prize money earned on a sliding scale of progress. The First round matches are best of 11 legs, with the Semi-finals being the best of 13 legs and the Final 15 legs.

Main Contenders

The current favourite for Hungarian Darts Trophy betting is Michael van Gerwen. MVG has claimed one title on the European Tour this season, back in April at the Belgian Darts Open. But Mighty Mike can never be written out of the picture of course.

Gerwyn Price and Dave Chisnall are the only two players to have lifted two PDC European Tour titles this year, but they both earned their respective titles in the first half of the season.

The most consistent player on the European Tour this season has been Luke Humphries. The Englishman has reached five Finals overall in another strong campaign but has walked away with just one title. Still, Humphries is up there among the leading pack of contenders in Hungarian Darts Trophy betting odds alongside Van Gerwen, Price and Michael Smith.

So the draw for the 2023 Hungarian Darts Trophy looks wide open with some fascinating clashes to come.
