The 2023 Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs on May 6, 20th. This week's prospect snaps look at Instant Coffee, winner of the $399,625 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes on Nov. 26 at the Churchill. Instant coffee earned 10 points toward qualifying for the 20 23 Kentucky derby.

Instant Coffee won the Kentucky Jockey club race. He earned a speed figure of 79. He had earned mid-80s Beyer Speed Figures for his first two starts.

Instant Coffee is a colt that Al Gold bought for $200,000 at the Keeneland September yearling sale. Gold also owns Cyberknife, the 2022 Arkansas Derby and TVG.com Haskell Stakes winner. Brad Cox won his first Triple Crown with Essential Quality in the 2021 Belmont Stake and Mandaloun in 2021 Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve. Luis Saez rode Essential quality to victory in Belmonstakes.

Instant Coffee is from the first crop of Bolt d’Oro. Follow No One, by Uncle Mo, is the dam of Instant Coffee. Miss Red Delicious is produced by Empire Maker, from family of Lady Apple.

Cox plans to ship Instant Coffee to Fair Grounds to prepare for the road to the Kentucky Derby. The colt has only three starts to date but has a graded stakes win on the host track of the first jewel of Triple Crown.
