Oak Hill, located in Rochester, New York, is the only course to have hosted all six US men’s rotating Major championships.

Like most Major courses, Oak Hill requires a well-rounded game for success, as it challenges players from tee to green. Some venues are difficult purely due to their length, but Oak Hill is not only long but unforgivingly punishes players that hit errant shots.

Accurate approach shots are especially crucial. Oak Hill has sloped greens with state-of-the-art drainage systems, making for a quick putting surface.

While you can’t go wrong betting on the number two OWGR player to claim victory at an event, Scottie Scheffler’s strengths play particularly well at Oak Hill.

Even the most skilled irons and approach golfers will miss the greens this weekend, making the ability to scramble important. Two stats to consider are SG: OTT, which measures hitting off the tee, and SG: APP, which tracks shots 30 yards from the hole.

Of the PGA Championship field, Scheffler is among the top 10 in both categories.

Xander Schauffele has finished T10 or better in his last four events, including a fourth and second-place finish at the RBC Heritage and Wells Fargo Championship, respectively. The California native has been inching towards an eighth career PGA Tour win, and bettors should feel good about it happening this weekend.

Plus, Schauffele is one of just 14 players at the PGA Championship that ranks above average in the four major strokes gained categories (OTT, APP, ARG, P). Schauffele’s game is well-rounded, and he’s a veteran golfer with the proven ability to navigate a difficult course design like Oak Hill’s.

In the last two months, Rory McIlroy has played in just two events where he missed the cut and T47. However, there’s reason to believe that McIlroy will get back on track at the PGA Championship.

McIlroy, whose wife is a Rochester native, is a member at Oak Hill. The course underwent a restoration project in recent years, and no golfer in the field should be as familiar with the updated design.

McIlroy is also a veteran on the PGA Tour and notched PGA Championship wins in 2012 and 2014.

The 2023 Masters was the first time LIV Golf players were allowed back for a PGA Tour event, and they did not disappoint. Three LIV golfers finished T4 or better at Augusta, including a T2 for Brooks Koepka.

There was much coverage regarding the potential feud between LIV and PGA Tour players, but that turned out to be a false narrative created by the media and fans. With that distraction gone, Koepka can focus solely on his performance at Oak Hill.

Koepka had a remarkable three-year run from 2017 to 2019, where he was victorious in four Majors. Two of those wins came at the PGA Championship, so it’s an event he’s both comfortable and confident at.

Koepka was atop the Masters betting odds for a bit, but was eventually overtaken by Jon Rahm. The assumption was that Brooksy fell out of the lead because LIV Golf events consist of three rounds, which is why we’re not banking on a win at Oak Hill.

With heavy importance placed on a player’s all-around game, Patrick Cantlay should be considered a favorite. Cantlay is one of the best in the PGA Championship field when analyzing the four major strokes gained categories.

As mentioned, Oak Hill’s Bentgrass greens are fast and promise to be a deciding factor in each golfer’s finishing position. Cantlay has a proven track record of success on that surface.

Fans may get frustrated watching Cantlay’s pace of play, but betting on him this weekend should make it far more bearable.
