Beginning next season, the College Football Playoff will never be the same.

The College Football Playoff on Tuesday officially announced it would expand to 12 teams and adopted a "5+7" format that allows for many more at-large bids into the sport's end-of-season championship tournament.

As a result, more teams than ever will have a chance to win the national championship and it's already creating interest in next year's NCAA football season at the best college football betting sites such as Caesars, BetMGM, DraftKings and more.

Below are updated 2025 College Football Playoff odds, including previews for Georgia, Texas, Alabama and others with a chance to win the expanded playoff.

2024-25 College Football National Championship odds: Georgia, Ohio State & Texas favored to win

Below are the College Football Playoff odds to win the national championship in 2025:

2025 CFP odds: Georgia to win the national championship (+350 or better)

Georgia narrowly missed the most recent CFP field as the sixth seed. They only lost one game in the last three seasons (against Alabama in the 2023 SEC Championship Game) and beat No. 5 Florida State 63-3 in the Orange Bowl.

Although the Bulldogs are losing key pieces, they also have the top-ranked 2024 recruiting class and will get much better in the transfer portal. Their major issue is their incredibly tough schedule, but then again, the next playoff field will be expanded to 12 teams.

Before the expanded playoff was announced, Georgia was as high as +500 at some sportsbooks.

2025 College Football Playoff odds: Ohio State (+500 or better)

The Buckeyes have not won the Big Ten since 2020, finishing behind Michigan in each of the last three seasons and losing to the now-champion Wolverines in the last three head-to-head matchups after dominating them for years. That said, Ohio State could gain a leg up now that Jim Harbaugh has left for the NFL.

Ohio State is expected to start former Kansas State QB Will Howard, who already announced his intent to transfer. He’ll join a team that allowed the second-fewest points per game, but will lose top wide receiver prospect Marvin Harrison Jr. from the receiving corps.

Ohio State opened closer to +700, but following the roster developments and the announcement of playoff expansion, the Bucketes are No. 2 on most odds boards.

2025 NCAAF National Championship odds: Texas (+750 or better)

Texas fell just short of the national title game after losing to Washington in the CFP Semifinals. But the Longhorns have a chance to return following the 2024 regular season, albeit in a totally different way.

Texas is now part of the SEC and will face a massively tough schedule in their first year in the nation's top conference, in and out of league play. If they can get through nonconference play unbeaten (including a trip to Michigan), we can take this team very seriously heading into play against programs in the best conference college football has to offer.

Whether it's Quinn Ewers or Arch Manning, Texas is in great shape at the quarterback position. It also lost just two of 17 offensive linemen on scholarship and returns 14 starters, more than any of the four CFP teams from a season ago.

College Football National Championship odds: Alabama (+800 or better)

The Crimson Tide reclaimed their SEC throne from Georgia and surged back into the conversation for the best team in the country with just two losses to CFP semifinalist Texas and the eventual national champion, Michigan.

Heisman candidate Jalen Milroe will be back under center, and he’ll be joined by the second-ranked 2024 recruiting class. But if Alabama is to regain control of the nation’s toughest conference, they'll do it with former Washington coach Kalen DeBoer following Nick Saban's retirement.

New 2025 College Football Playoff Format

The new 12-team College Football Playoff beginning in 2025 will feature a "5+7" system that awards both the winners of power conferences and at-large teams with a great resume.

First, five automatic qualifying spots will be awarded to the highest-ranked power conference champions. The other seven spots will go to the highest-ranked remaining teams. The only "big" conference without an automatic spot is the Pac-12 following realignment, although the conference will keep its voting spot on the board for another two seasons.
