Aaron Judge tries new position (3/8/23)

TAMPA — Yankees captain Aaron Judge is getting his wish.

Judge asked to play some left field this season so Giancarlo Stanton can see more action in right field during home games, and he’ll put out there trying a new position on Wednesday.

Judge’s start in left for the Yankees’ game against the St. Louis Cardinals is a first for him since he was in Triple-A in 2016. Actually, the only previous times he ever played left were a few games when he was a college freshman at Fresno State in 2011 and his seven starts there with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2016.

Stanton hopes to play more outfield this year instead of mostly being the Yankees’ designated hitter, but the Yankees don’t want him playing in the big left field at Yankee Stadium. That’s why Judge volunteered to switch from right to left when Boone wants to use Stanton in right.

Stanton is in right for Wednesday’s game.

First pitch at Steinbrenner Field is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
