Yankees vs Orioles Prediction, Picks, Odds

Despite a tough loss last night, the New York Yankees have scored 5+ runs in five of seven games this season. Facing lefty Cole Irvin, our free MLB picks like the Bronx Bombers to hang another crooked number tonight.

While the new MLB rules have reduced the number of divisional games on the schedule, the New York Yankees still face a bruising battle to win the AL East — including tonight’s matchup against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Yankees lost a back-and-forth contest in Baltimore yesterday and will look to even the series tonight as they give the ball to Jhony Brito, who delivered a nerveless MLB debut last week, against an O's lineup that saw six different hitters cash in a run to wear out the Yankees’ bullpen.

Tonight, however, it could be the Bronx Bombers wearing out Baltimore pitching — I'll explain why as I break down the MLB odds and give my best free MLB pick for Yankees vs. Orioles on Saturday, April 8.

Yankees vs Orioles odds

Yankees vs Orioles predictions

The Yankees entered this season with one of the most dangerous lineups in the league, and despite the pitching staff coming up short yesterday, the Yankees got great production again from their hitters (six runs on nine hits) and I see them staying hot tonight against Cole Irvin

The Baltimore Orioles lefty, who came over from Oakland in the offseason, had a rough start to the year against Boston last weekend, getting chased from the game after allowing up six runs on eight hits through four innings of work. Now he has to turn around and face a New York lineup that has scored five runs or more five times in seven games this season.

Aaron Judge has enjoyed facing the Orioles over the years, hitting .306 with 35 homers in 88 career games, while he, Gleyber Torres, Oswaldo Cabrera, and DJ LeMahieu are all averaging north of .290 so far in 2023.

With the Tampa Bay Rays flying out of the traps at the top of the AL East, the Yankees can’t afford to lose too much early ground. That suggests a big response here, with their star-laden lineup doing the heavy lifting as the pitching staff tries to weather an injury storm.

I’m taking these odds for the Yankees to get the better of Irvin and keep the scoreboard ticking tonight.

My best bet: Yankees team total over 4.5 runs (-105 at bet365)

Yankees vs Orioles moneyline analysis

The road side is favored to even the series tonight, with the New York Yankees odds opening at -135 with Jhony Brito on the mound. That’s putting a lot of faith a guy making what will be just his second start in the majors, but there was plenty to like in his debut: Brito struck out six batters, and 51 of his 76 pitches were strikes, in a 6-0 win over San Francisco.

The Orioles punched above their weight last season on the way to an impressive 83-79 record, and they’re at it again this year. They manufactured runs last night, scoring seven times without a homer, but they can win with the long ball too, as they showed with two HRs in the 7-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday.

The hosts held Judge hitless yesterday but will need to do a better job against Cabrera and Giancarlo Stanton, who combined for five hits and three RBIs last night.

Yankees vs Orioles Over/Under analysis

The total of 8.0 feels a little light here, with two offenses capable of scoring in bunches.

Sure, Brito was electric in his debut, but he’s still finding his way as a big-league starter, and the Orioles had 10 hits last night and boast plenty of run-scoring potential throughout the lineup.

Baltimore has quietly done damage at the plate this season, scoring 41 runs — the second-most in the AL and six more than the Yankees’ tally.

There’s no questioning the power in this New York lineup, and the visitors have scored consistently, with 4+ runs in six of their seven games in 2023. Though their top hitters have had limited at-bats against Irvin, it’s an encouraging sign for the Over that Judge, Stanton, and Anthony Rizzo have all gone deep against the lefty — plus the Over is 4-1 in the last five meetings at Camden Yards.

Starting pitchers

Jhony Brito (1-0, 0.00 ERA): Brito carved through the Giants in his MLB debut, throwing five scoreless innings and beating hitters time and again with his changeup. The 25-year-old right-hander is making the most of his opportunity as the Yankees deal with injuries in their starting rotation.

Cole Irvin (0-1, 13.50 ERA): It was a less convincing 2023 debut for Irvin, who never got settled in a 9-5 loss to the Red Sox last Sunday. He started 30 games for the Oakland A's last season, finishing 9-13 but posting a respectable 3.98 ERA and 1.16 WHIP.
