Stefano Pioli's side are unbeaten in their last eight games in all competitions, but have only won three of them, drawing four of their last five matches.
Two of those victories have come against without a doubt the best team in Italy this season, Napoli, winning 4-0 away in the league and beating them in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final to help book their place in the semis.
The Rossoneri are two points behind their local rivals Inter Milan, who occupy the final Champions League place, following the midweek round of fixtures, which saw Milan score a 93rd minute equaliser against relegation-bound Cremonese to rescue a point.
AC Milan do have the advantage of having a second potential path into next season's Champions League, as they prepare for their semi final first leg against Inter Milan next week - the winner of this season's competition will be guaranteed a place in next season's group stage regardless of their league position.
Lazio won the reverse fixture between these two sides by a 4-0 scoreline back in January, despite having lost the previous three meetings between the two sides.
The side from the capital have lost on their last three matches away at AC Milan, but interestingly Piolo and Sarri are tied at seven piece in their head to head managerial records across their career.
