Alamo Bowl Between Texas-Washington Will Be A Rock-Fight

No. 21 Texas Longhorns (8-4) and No. 12 Washington Huskies (10-2) are playing in the Alamo Bowl on Thursday. Texas started the season 2- 2 and finished 6-3, but is 8- 4 against the spread and 6.6 over/under. Washington has won six straight games.

Washington and Texas are playing in the Alamo Bowl. The money is on Washington (-130), Texas (-150), and the total is 67. According to Pregame.com, a slight majority of the money are on the Under. Two-thirds of bets placed at the time of writing are placed on over.

Washington's offense is overrated. The Huskies' strength of schedule ranks 69th nationally.

Washington has played some good offensive games against Power 5 schools this season. However, they have also played poor defensive games.

Texas plays Stanford on Sept. 24, Arizona State on Oct. 8, Ariz. State (112th) on October. 15, Oregon (97th), Colorado (131st) and Washington State 32nd on Nov. 26.

Texas is 11th in points/play allowed, 20th yards per play (YPP) and has played the second-toughest strength of schedule. Texas held Alabama with 2021 Heisman Trophy winning QB Bryce Young to just 20 points and TCU with 2022 Heisman finalist, QB Max Duggan, to 17 points. The Longhorns shut out Oklahoma 49-0 in the Red River Rivalry and the Sooners averaged just 3.3 YPP.

Texas has a suspect offense. The team's top two running backs, Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson, opted out of the Alamo Bowl. Texas' backup QB, Quinn Ewers, has been worse than sophomore QB Hudson Card.

Both teams have good third-down conversion rates and good red-zone defense. Washington has the best third down conversion rate in the country. Texas is 12th in opponent’s red zone scoring rate and Washington is 17th. The Huskies are 11th for turnovers per game and 118th per forced, while the Longhorns are 107th, 21st and 21th respectively.
