Alexandre Carrier: From “Pleasant Surprise” to Key Piece of Preds’ Future

The Nashville Predators start the 2022-23 NHL season. On The Forecheck is taking a look at expectations for each player. Today, we're taking look into defender Alexandre Carrier.

Alexandre Carrier made his NHL debut five months before the Predators made the Stanley Cup Final. He made it to the All-Rookie Team for the first time. His 27 assists and 30 points are team records for rookie defenders. Carrier was a key contributor on the power play, penalty kill and late-game situations.

Carrier is 26 and is in his prime years. He is a solid player who makes the easy-yet-effective plays. Carrier had 4 points on the power play last season. Preds should have more firepower this season and a better second unit. The big question is who will be Carrier's partner. Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, or Ryan McDonagh could be the answer. If Carrier is paired with Json, expect him to play the Ryan Ellis role. if he is playing with Mcdonagh, he will play more of an anchor role and be aggressive.

Alexandre Carrier is a member of the Nashville Predators. He is expected to get at least one Norris vote this season. Last year Roman Josi won the award. If the Preds can improve their defensive play, Carrier could get more exposure. If things go well for Nashville, a fifth Norris might be thrown Carrier's way at the end of season, like with Mackenzie Weegar.
