Brian Clive de Villiers died of cancer of the stomach. He was 80 years old. Brian started his career as an apprentice jockey at the age of 12. After retiring from the saddle he set up his own training establishment in Johannesburg. James Goodman recalls that Brian was a shrewd horseman. He trained SA Oaks winner Seven Stars and champion sprinting fillies Panache and Marischal. His son Shaun spoke to his father twice a day. They spent quality time together. The children were in Port Elizabeth. Irene deVilliers considers Brian to be the son of Cookie Amos.
