Angels vs. Cardinals Picks, Predictions & Odds

For the first time in history, the Los Angeles Angels (16-14) and the St. Louis Cardinals (10-20) are playing without Albert Pujols suiting up for either team. The AL West vs NL Central matchup is sure to be a fun one.

This is one of the most anticipated matchup of the year for both of these MLB teams. Neither team is necessarily where they want to be in the MLB standings at this point of the season. But the MLB schedule is just beginning. With that being said, let’s take a look at the Angels vs Cardinals odds for Wednesday night’s game.

Los Angeles Angels vs St. Louis Cardinals

Location of the game: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO.

Date & Time: Wednesday, May 3. 7:45 p.m. EST.

How to watch: MLB.TV

It is that time of the week when looking at our MLB picks. The legendary Shohei Ohtani is on the mound. This greatly impacts the MLB odds between the Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals. Even as the home team, the Angels vs Cardinals odds should not be a surprise.

Moneyline: On the moneyline, the Angels are given -140 odds. The Cardinals are the underdog at Busch Stadium with +125 odds.

Spread: When it comes to the spread, the Cardinals will be given +1.5 (-135) odds and the Angels will have to cover -1.5 (+115).

Over/Under: Finally, the over/under is set at 7.5 runs on Monday night in what projects to be one of the lower-scoring MLB games of the day.

Does Shohei Ohtani even need an introduction? He is the most popular player with the craziest MLB stats on both sides of the ball. A storyline to follow is that he will be pitching against his former teammate in the World Baseball Classic, Lars Nootbaar. Ohtani does not shy away from these types of matchups; we saw that when he pitched against Mike Trout in the WBC and dominated.

When he is not hitting home runs, Ohtani is having a phenomenal season on the bump. The 28-year-old is 4-0 with a 1.85 ERA, 0.82 WHIP, and 46 strikeouts through 34.0 innings pitched. If you are a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, these numbers should scare you. Ohtani has been key to the Los Angeles Angels standings as they look to make the postseason in the much-improved AL West.

This St. Louis team has a glaring weakness when it comes to their starting pitching. Miles Mikolas was supposed to spearhead the rotation, but that has not been the case. After getting extended prior to the season, St. Louis is still looking for the production out of what they believe to be their ace. There is light at the end of the tunnel, however, for fans of the Cardinals. The 34-year-old is coming off his best start of the season, allowing just four hits and no runs in 6.1 innings against the San Francisco Giants.

The RHP is 1-1 with a 5.97 ERA, 1.71 WHIP, and 21 strikeouts through 31.2 innings. Through his six games pitched in 2023, Mikolas has gone rather deep in the games. The thing is, he has allowed 16 runs in those six games. Mikolas appears to finally be finding his grove, which has impacted the Angels vs Cardinals odds. The St. Louis Cardinals picks have not gone their way so far this season, but a huge win against a great pitcher could turn the tides.

As the Los Angeles Angels and St. Louis Cardinals are set to battle, this is one of many interleague matchups seen around MLB. There is a reason that the projected total is low. These offenses have a lot of firepower, but this is a great pitcher’s matchup.

  • Take under 7.5 (-105) runs in this one.

Nobody expected the Cardinals to only win 10 of their first 30 games, but here we are. On the other hand, the Angels are finally meeting their expectations early on with a record above .500 in the early part of May. This is going to be a low-scoring and tightly-contested game.

  • We could see the game decided by just a run, so take St. Louis +1.5 (-135) against Los Angeles.
