Aston Villa close in on transfer as Premier League prediction made

Here’s the ;latest Aston Villa news on Sunday, 10 September, 2023.

Chelsea considering Watkins bid

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing up Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins to their striker problem in January.

The London club have had a miserable time with forwards in recent years with Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang all failing at Stamford Bridge.

Nicolas Jackson is currently leading the line but is proving to be hit and miss as he scored against Luton but missed chances in other games, most notably in defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Chelsea also signed Christopher Nkunku in the summer but he was injured in pre-season and remains on the sidelines.

Europa Conference League ticket doubts

Legia Warsaw have confirmed UEFA may "limit the pool of tickets" for their home clash against Aston Villa in the Europa Conference League.

Villa will travel to Poland for the match on Thursday, September 21 but there are now fresh doubts over whether supporters travelling will be able to get tickets for the match. UEFA disciplinary bodies have opened proceedings against the Polish club after their game against FC Midtjylland.

In a statement on Saturday, Legia Warsaw said: "We would like to inform you that Legia Warszawa is currently undergoing proceedings before the UEFA disciplinary bodies regarding our last match against FC Midtjylland.

Final Premier League table predicted

Aston Villa will be aiming to make European football a regular feature at Villa Park in the coming seasons, but bookmakers have predicted they may have to wait a bit longer to make that dream a reality.

Villa take part in the group stages of the Europa Conference League in the next few weeks after a seventh-place Premier League finish last term and having overcome Scottish side Hibernian in a two-legged qualification play-off.

But Villa fans looking for a repeat - or even better - will be disappointed, according to the experts at oddschecker.

And they are also reckon Wolves, who swapped managers on the eve of the new season and flogged some of their top talent under FFP pressures in the summer, will struggle this term.

‘Record deal’ agreed

Aston Villa are poised to confirm the signing of exciting teenager Freddie Lawrie from Port Vale.

According to reports, the central midfielder will be a club record deal for a schoolboy player after an agreement was reached by Villa and Vale.

It is understood Villa beat off interest from several other Premier League clubs to do a deal for the under-15s academy player.

The agreement was originally the subject of an "exclusive" report by website Football Insider, but the news has now been confirmed by sources close to the deal. Details of the compensation fee Villa will pay for Lawrie remain unknown.
