Graham Potter’s side stuttered to a draw against Everton before the international break, a disappointing result given the Blues had looked to have turned a corner.

Potter’s side are in a strange League position. Even with 11 games to go, Chelsea just aren’t playing for anything domestically.

Potter will provide an update on the fitness of Reece James after the defender was forced to pull out of the England squad who beat Italy and Ukraine. Kai Havertz is a concern too after leaving the Germany camp, as did Wesley Fofana with France.

There is better news on N’Golo Kante, however. The Frenchman played an hour in a behind-closed-doors friendly win over Charlton at Cobham and could step up his recovery even further by appearing against Villa.

Emery has lost Matty Cash for a number of weeks after he was injured playing for Poland during the break. Boubacar Kamara and Diego Carlos could feature, however.
