The moves and acquisitions made will make an impact on MLB postseason and 2023 World Series odds.

MLB trade deadline recap: Orioles, Astros add arms while Yankees remain quiet

New York Mets trade Justin Verlander back to Houston Astros

The New York Mets continued their “not a firesale”, dealing co-ace Justin Verlander back to the Houston Astros only days after shipping Max Scherzer to the Texas Rangers.

Baltimore Orioles trade for St. Louis Cardinals righty Jack Flaherty

Baltimore added much-needed help to its young rotation, trading for St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Jack Flaherty.

Flaherty sports a 3.03 ERA across 29.2 July frames.

Blue Jays add infielder Paul DeJong in wake of Bo Bichette injury scare

Bichette left Monday night’s game with an apparent knee injury, which has subsequently been diagnosed as knee inflammation.

DeJong, perhaps initially viewed as a potential replacement, will serve as depth and a temporary fill-in should Bichette be forced to miss extended time.

Yankees remain quiet, fail to bolster hapless lineup

The Bronx Bombers failed to address a floundering lineup or complete a move that could light a spark under a team that resides in the American League East cellar.

MLB Trade Deadline: Updated 2023 World Series odds and more after deadline day

How much did teams change or strengthen their MLB postseason and World Series fortunes in the eyes of the oddsmakers? And which of these changes is worth backing from a betting perspective?

Atlanta Braves odds: To win NL pennant (+140 or better)

The Braves currently own the shortest odds to win the World Series with prices as short as +300 (FanDuel), but we’re looking specifically at their top competition in the National League.

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies are the most significant threats, according to oddsmakers.

But, the former struck out on adding a rotation upgrade, and while the Phillies landed Michael Lorenzen from the Detroit Tigers, it’s still difficult to ignore how dominant this Braves team is on paper.

If the Dodgers and Phillies are the top competitors on paper, the Braves backers have to be pleased that neither one made a seismic splash.

Houston Astros World Series odds: Bet Houston to go back-to-back? (+550 or better)

Oddsmakers across the board trimmed the Astros’ World Series price following their acquisition of future Hall of Fame right-hander Justin Verlander.

Some shops were more aggressive than others, such as Caesars, who shortened the Astros’ odds to win it all from +750 to +550.

Sharp bettors may have anticipated the Astros landing a big-name arm, but there is still value in backing Houston to win the fall classic at their shortened numbers.

AL East odds: Baltimore Orioles to win division (+105 or better)

Jack Flaherty is not Justin Verlander – the veteran arm some pundits suggested the Orioles should pursue – but his acquisition is a positive addition nonetheless.

Baltimore already walked down Tampa Bay to take a small lead in the division. And even though the Rays managed to bolster their starting rotation with former Guardians starter Aaron Civale, they may have made their best run of the season.

The O’s appear to be barreling toward a return to the postseason, and their ticket could certainly be punched via the division crown.

For those mulling a wager on the Orioles winning the AL East, consider there are sportsbooks pricing the O’s and Rays with identical odds to win the division.

Backing Baltimore’s +105 odds at FanDuel (the Rays are -115) offers the most potential bang for your bet.
