The Seattle Mariners just keep winning. They swept the Royals this weekend to get to 74-56 and take sole possession of first place in the AL West. Seattle just keeps catching breaks in their schedule too. Starting tonight, it’s a three-game set with the worst team in baseball, the 38-93 Oakland Athletics.
The A's will open the series with Kyle Muller, who will take the mound against Bryan Woo. Muller is 1-4 for Oakland with a 7.28 ERA and Woo is 1-3 for Seattle with a 4.58 ERA.

Seattle is on a serious roll right now and we can’t not back them. In August they are 19-5, the second best record in baseball and they have a 3.12 ERA as a team with an .874 team OPS at the plate. Everything is working for this team including their rookie, Bryan Woo, who had a strong outing last trip to the mound, though it was short lived.
Woo went four innings and allowed just one run. That was against the White Sox and now he’ll get to face an even worse lineup in the A’s. Oakland has been led by Zack Gelof in August, but outside of their rookie second baseman there is very little production throughout this lineup. Gelof has a 1.040 OPS this month with seven home runs.
The Mariners have gotten an even better month at the plate out of Julio Rodriguez. J-Rod has a 1.139 OPS with six homers and has driven in 27 runs this month. He’s hitting a ridiculous .410 in an even 100 at-bats and as a team the Mariners are hitting .289 in August.
Kyle Muller also allowed one run over four innings in his last start, but still resulted in a 4-0 loss to the Royals. Oakland has a team ERA of 5.46 this month.
