Atlanta United’s early MLS success now a distant memory

Atlanta United has struggled in the last three seasons. The team finished 11th in Eastern Conference, eight points below the playoff line. It was affected by a string of injuries, including Brad Guzan, Miles Robinson and Ozzie Alonso. Josef Martinez was suspended for a week and the team won just six games in 23 matches. The club has attracted record crowds since entering MLS. But there appeared to be more no-shows at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A new president must be hired to replace Darren Eales. This could impact Carlos Bocanegra's job security. United won the MLS Cup in its second season and reached the conference final in third season.
