Atletico Madrid vs. Inter Milan prediction: Champions League picks

Atletico Madrid has built up quite the reputation ever since Diego Simeone took over as manager in 2011.

Like their fiery leader, Atleti have developed an identity of being a scrappy team that nobody wants to face in the knockout stages of a tournament.

Los Colchoneros also seem to do their best work when they’re the underdog.

That identity will be put to the test Tuesday when Atleti travel to Milan to take on Inter in the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid is a +490 underdog at FanDuel in the first leg, which kicks off at 3 p.m. ET at the San Siro.

It’s been a terrific season so far for Inter Milan.

The Italian giants, who finished as the runners-up in last year’s Champions League, are comfortably atop the table in Serie A and have lost just two matches (once in league play and once in the Coppa Italia) in 2023-24.

That said, it is worth mentioning it is a down year for Serie A and that Inter haven’t been quite as impressive in the Champions League.

Inter finished second in Group D with a 3-3-0 (W-D-L) record and a +3 goal difference.

Normally it’s Atletico Madrid’s defense that gets the headlines, but Antoine Griezmann and the Atleti attack have been terrific in 2023-24 and should ask some serious questions of an Inter defense that has been brilliant in Serie A this season.

It’s hard to win on the road in the Champions League and Inter have hardly put a foot wrong in a year, but Atleti’s experience and skill up top makes them a live underdog at this price.

THE PLAY: Atletico Madrid (+490, FanDuel)
