Australian Group 1 performer set for Dubai debut against Blue Army

Former Australian-trained galloper I Am Superman will have his first start since his down under stint when he resumes in a Group Two in Dubai on Friday (local time).

Trained by Team Snowden when in Australia, the Footstepsinthesand gelding is now back with his original trainer Michael O’Callaghan, who has taken him to campaign in Dubai.

First-up, I Am Superman will tackle the Group Two Zabeel Mile, race five on the Meydan card which will be run at 3:20am Saturday (AEDT).

He is taking on the might of Godolphin, who have six of the eight runners in the field, including hot favourite Master Of The Seas ($1.57) from the Charlie Appleby yard.

Appleby also has $4 second-elect Modern News in the race, with I Am Superman ($5.50) on the third line of betting.

The only other non-Godolphin runner is Erzindjan - rated a $101 chance - which means I Am Superman is seemingly the only realistic chance of spoiling the Blue Army party in Friday’s feature.

It will be I Am Superman’s first start since flashing home to finish a close second to Callsign Mav in September’s G1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

“We’re delighted with I Am Superman since arriving in Dubai,” O’Callaghan said, via Emirates Racing.

“He’s in really good form ahead of Friday and Colin Keane is over to ride.”
