Novak Djokovic is a 10-time champion at the Australian Open, and the 2024 Australian Open odds reflect that dominance.

Djokovic, the defending champion, has the lowest odds at +110 or better, as he goes for his record 25th Grand Slam championship. He has won four of the last five Aussie Open titles. Here are our favorite Australian Open men's picks and long shots.

Australian Open odds, preview, and picks

Tennis fans hope the rivalry that began last year between Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz is renewed Down Under. Alcaraz (+330 or better) defeated Djokovic in a five-set marathon at Wimbledon in July.

Alcaraz is the second seed. The 20-year-old from Spain has the firepower and grit to stay with Djokovic. Third-seed Daniil Medvedev (+900 or better) has won a major — the 2021 U.S. Open — and could be a threat.

Keep an eye on Jannik Sinner (+650 or better), a 22-year-old from Italy, who won 20 of his final 23 matches in 2023. Sinner defeated Djokovic twice in 12 days in November. Sinner saved three match points in his first victory over Djokovic.

Weather often is a factor in Melbourne, which is played on hard courts. It’s summer in Australia and temperatures can climb above 100 degrees. The main court has a dome but the heat and humidity can be debilitating.

2024 Australian Open picks for men’s draw: Novak Djokovic (+110 or better)

Djokovic has won 28 consecutive matches at the Australian Open. His two greatest rivals, who made this the greatest era in men’s tennis history, will not compete.

Rafael Nadal, who fought injuries all last year, recently withdrew due to a muscle micro tear. Nadal, 37, who has won 22 major titles, didn’t play a competitive match after last year's Aussie Open.

Roger Federer (20 major titles) retired from tennis in 2022. This is the first time since 1999 that neither Nadal or Federer will play the Australian Open.

Djokovic is 36 years old, ancient for tennis. But he remains physically fit and his mental focus is legendary. He already said his goal for 2024 is to win all four majors plus the Olympic gold medal in Paris. Last year, Djokovic won the three other majors — the Aussie Open, French Open and U.S. Open.

Until Djokovic starts to lose at majors on a consistent basis, it’s nearly impossible to bet against him.

Men’s 2024 Australian Open long shot picks: Look at Holger Rune, Daniil Medvedev

In any tournament with the dominant Djokovic, the rest of the field can be considered a long shot. Here are a couple to consider:

  • Holger Rune (+2200 or better): The 20-year-old Dane is the eighth seed in Melbourne and has been ranked as high as fourth. He has some impressive victories, but hasn’t broken through against the elite. He has the game to do so.
  • Daniil Medvedev (+900 or better). The Russian beat Alcaraz in the 2023 U.S. Open semifinals before losing in straight sets in the final to Djokovic. He plays well at the AO, reaching the final in 2021 and 2022.
