Glass half-empty for United

Manchester United’s troubled start to the season could get worse before it gets better as Erik ten Hag’s side prepare to face one of the most consistent Champions League clubs around.

Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 34 group-stage games, winning their last 13 in a row – both of which are competition records.

The Bavarians also know how to start a European campaign on the front foot, having won their last 19 opening fixtures.

The German champions, who have never previously lost at home to United, have won their previous 14 home group games – all by a margin of more than one goal.

A consolation for United fans is that the city’s Oktoberfest is in full flow so they will not be short of places to drown their sorrows after the game.

It could be a really painful night on the pitch for the three-time Champions League winners United, who have already conceded 10 times in their first five domestic games.

Bayern Munich vs Man Utd tip 1: Bayern Munich -1 handicap @ 13/10 with Sky Bet

Value lies with Sane not Kane

All the focus will be on Harry Kane for this one as the England captain makes his first Champions League appearance since his expensive summer transfer from Tottenham.

Kane will be desperate to add to his tally of four goals in four Bundesliga appearances but his record against United while with Spurs was not especially prolific.

He could certainly improve it on Wednesday but there are a number of potential goalscorers in the home team who will be a threat to United’s shaky defence.

Leroy Sane has been Bayern’s most reliable goalscorer in group games for the past two seasons with nine goals in 10 appearances.

He has also registered three times in his side’s opening four league games of the season on the back of goals in each of his last two pre-season appearances.

Bayern Munich vs Man Utd tip 2: Leroy Sane to score any time @ 8/5 with Sky Bet

Solid case for Brazilian to collect a card

Casemiro collected 14 yellow and two red cards for United last season, including three in 12 Europa League appearances.

The Brazilian has looked a little off the pace at times in the early stages of this campaign and could be in trouble if he makes a late challenge on Wednesday.

United have been swamped in midfield in both away league games this season, at Spurs and Arsenal, who both won five or more corners against them. That suggests Bayern can do the same.

Meanwhile, all three of the Red Devils’ defeats this season have been by exactly two goals and it is noticeable that a high proportion of Bayern’s home Champions League victories have been by the same margin.

They have won three of their previous five home European ties by a scoreline of 2-0, which makes Bayern to win by exactly two goals a worthwhile addition to your bet builder.

Bayern Munich vs Man Utd tip 3: Casemiro to be shown a card, over 4.5 Bayern corners and Bayern to win by exactly two goals @ 12/1 with Sky Bet
