Betfred secures online sports betting license in Maryland

Betfred became the eighth operator to secure a license to offer online sports betting in Maryland, while the group also opened a new retail sportsbook in Nevada.

Issued by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the license will allow Betfred to launch its ‘Betfred Sportsbook’ mobile betting application in the state. Maryland opened its regulated online gambling market in November last year, with Barstool, BetRivers, BetMGM, Caesars, DraftKings, FanDuel and PointsBet among the other licensed operators in the state.

Meanwhile, the operator announced the opening of its new retail sportsbook at Mohegan Casino inside Virgin Hotels Las Vegas in the state of Nevada. The facility has over-the-counter betting services and a large video screen providing live coverage of a wide range of sporting events.

The launch marked Betfred’s first venture in Nevada, although the operator is also licensed in Iowa, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Louisiana, Arizona, Washington, Virginia and Ohio, and now Maryland.

Earlier this month, Betfred entered into a partnership with the Vegas Golden Knights, an NHL team based in Nevada, serving as the team’s official sports betting partner and running several activations and promotions for supporters and fans.
