Neil Robertson is the bookmakers' favourite for the Betfred World Championship. Kyren Wilson is still without a major title in his locker. He could meet Ding Junhui in the first round. Stuart Bingham needs to win the UK Championship to join the list of players to have won all three majors. The Essex player was the most prolific century breakmaker in last year's tournament. His only previous world final appearance was in 2016. Ding won the tournament 8-6. It is his only world title. John Higgins won it in 2009. Judd Trump has gone off the boil recently.

Ronnie O'Sullivan is in the fourth quarter of the World Championship in Sheffield. He is playing Zhao Xintong, Shaun Murphy and Mark Allen. O’Sullivan has been beaten by Higgins in all four of their matches this season. He has played through the low months and has looked more competitive in recent weeks. The Rocket is aiming to equal Stephen Hendry's record of seven world titles. There are reports that Murphy is not in peak physical condition.

This year's qualifiers look a cracking bunch and it would be no surprise if a number of seeds came out on top in the first round. Scott Donaldson, Michael White, Ashley Hugill, David Gilbert, dual world finalist Matthew Stevens and Iran's Shoot Out champion Hossain Vafaei are all performing at or near the top of their games.
