He was introduced to gambling by a fellow chess player Matvey Natanzon. The buy-in for the World Championships is 1,000 euros. The real money is found in side action, which is played at night. This year Alex has volunteered to book the tournament. It's a significant undertaking. Taking bets on all the players requires a big bankroll and guts. Even if they shade the odds in their favor, the house isn't guaranteed to win.
