Bloodlines: Kentucky Derby Winner Medina Spirit's Pedigree Not As Obscure As It Might Seem

Medina Spirit won the Kentucky Derby by a half-length from Mandaloun. The colt's sire is the beautifully pedigreed Protonico, a dark bay son of leading sires Giant's Causeway and Alpha Spirit. His dam is a daughter of Chilean champion and U.S. G1 winner Wild Spirit (Hussonet). Proronico is one of his sired's best dirt performers. He is from Northern Dancer through the former's son Giant’s Causeaway. Last year Authentic won Kentucky Derby. He comes from Storm Cat through Harlan, Harlon's Holiday and Into Mischief.
