St. Louis is a sizable home favorite in the NHL odds, as the Blues have rolled off five consecutive victories to climb into a wild-card spot.

It’s been an entirely different story for Columbus. The Blue Jackets have just one regulation win since the break while underwhelming to the tune of a 4-6-4 record and a minus-19 goal differential.

The St. Louis Blues are punching above their weight class. They rank second last in Corsi For percentage (42.6%) and last in expected goals percentage (40.9%) at five-on-five through 15 games out of the holiday break.

Meanwhile, the Columbus Blue Jackets have allowed a league-high 4.0 goals per game since the break to climb to a 31st-ranked 3.73 per for the season. The Blue Jackets are also playing the final leg of a five-game road trip ahead of the All-Star break.

Additionally, these are two of the worst teams in the ratings. St. Louis ranks 29th in offense and 26th in defense, while Columbus respectively sits in 23rd and 24th. My numbers give the Blue Jackets a slight edge tonight, and there have been line movement to the Columbus side since the odds for this game opened Monday.

Additionally, there is an outlier in the Jackets' moneyline at +155 available through TonyBet, significantly deviating from the market. BetRivers also offers a +140, and the breaking point for me is the +136 through FanDuel. I feel confident in backing the underdog Blue Jackets at all of those prices.

St. Louis continuing to win with basement-underlying statistics is going to be difficult. Plus, the Blues have needed overtime heroics in three straight. The puck luck will dry up on Tuesday.

Yego Chinakhov Over 2.5 shots

In addition to my best bet on the Blue Jackets moneyline, I’m turning to surging Columbus winger Yegor Chinakhov. His Over 2.5 shots is one of my favorite NHL player props for Tuesday, and he’s registered a team-high 28 shots and 64 attempts across his past nine games. Chinakhov is also set to skate in a top-line role alongside Boone Jenner and Johnny Gaudreau, and as noted, St. Louis has been dominated at even strength since the holiday break.

I have Chinakhov projected for 3.16 shots, and I also value the odds through DraftKings for this same-game parlay. FanDuel is only hanging +325 and bet365 has this SGP priced at +300. For comparison, the difference in +350 and +300 odds is a positive expected value of 13%.

As discussed, this moneyline has seen movement to the Columbus side, so picking off an outlier price from a shop slow to adjust to the market is a top-down strategy. In this particular case, the market siding with the Blue Jackets aligns with my numbers, and the tandem is the backbone of my handicap.

There also isn't typically as significant of a shift in the moneyline prices of an NHL game due to the short window between opening and puck drop. For instance, the opening numbers through bet365 were Columbus +150 and St. Louis -180. As of Tuesday afternoon, the two teams are respectively priced at +125 and -150.

The total, meanwhile, hasn’t had any meaningful adjustments. It’s a consensus 6.5 with the Over carrying the higher vig. I don’t anticipate a notable move leading into puck drop, either.
