Blues vs Canadiens Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The St. Louis Blues have been on fire over the last several weeks and now draw a Habs team with a dried-up offense. Our NHL picks expect the Blues to keep Montreal at bay this afternoon.

The St. Louis Blues will look to continue their winning ways on Super Bowl Sunday when they head to Bell Centre to take on the Montreal Canadiens as both clubs conclude a back-to-back.

The Blues are 6-1-0 in their last seven games and their .857 points percentage since January 20 ranks tied with the Panthers for the best mark in the NHL over that span. NHL odds has the visitors pegged as the away favorite, with Montreal +100 on the moneyline

Can St. Louis pick up its second win in as many days and continue the climb towards the playoffs? Keep reading my Blues vs Canadiens free NHL picks for Sunday, February 11 to find out.

Blues vs Canadiens predictions

The St. Louis Blues were back in action Saturday following a 10-day layoff and they didn’t miss a beat, defeating the Sabres 3-1 thanks to a two-goal effort from Jake Neighbours and 34 saves from Joel Hofer.

The Blues will likely be switching over to Jordan Binnington for the second half of their back-to-back this afternoon and I’ll be looking for him to keep the Montreal Canadiens to Under 2.5 goals as my best bet.

Binnington is coming off a strong month of January where he posted a .930 SV% and a 2.10 GAA through nine starts along with a 6-2-1 record through that span. The Blues netminder was excellent in his final game before the All-Star break as he stopped 21 of 22 shots against the Blue Jackets in a 1-0 loss.

Binnington has held opponents to two goals or fewer in six of his last 10 starts and will look to do the same this afternoon against a Canadiens team that has struggled to put the puck in the net all season.

Montreal is averaging just 2.73 goals per game this season — the fifth-worst mark in the NHL — and has been even worse offensively over the last month, scoring 2.67 gpg in its last 12 contests since January 10.

The Canadiens have been held to two goals or fewer in four of their last seven games and with Sean Monahan shipped off to the Jets earlier this month, they now own only three players with at least 10 goals on the season.

With Binnington and the Blues playing solid hockey, they should have another tidy defensive game against a stunted Canadiens offense.

My best bet: Canadiens team total Under 2.5 (+125 at SIA)

Under 6.5

The Blues have been one of the best teams in the NHL since their hot streak started on January 20 while the Habs have trended in the opposite direction, going 2-3-1 over that span while allowing 4.00 goals per game.

Pavel Buchnevich has been a key part of St. Louis’ recent success with four goals in his last seven contests and a team-high 18 shots on net while shooting 22%. He co-leads the team with 17 goals this season and should have a good shot at adding to his tally today.

Lastly, the Blues have held opponents to just two combined goals over their last two contests and shouldn’t have too much trouble keeping this one Under 6.5 total goals vs a slumping Canadiens attack.

Blues vs Canadiens moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Blues opened as the road favorite at -116 on the moneyline with today’s total set at six goals. There hasn’t been a ton of movement on the moneyline ahead of puck drop, except at a few books where you can find the Blues as a slight underdog — a wise decision if you can lock that in.

With Binnington posting a strong 2.10 GAA for the Blues in January, the Under looks appetizing against a depleted Canadiens offense that will be without Monahan as well as Brendan Gallagher.

St. Louis has cashed the Under in two straight games while holding opponents to just one goal in both contests. Meanwhile, the Under is 3-2 in Montreal’s last five outings as the Habs scored two goals or fewer in three of those games.

While the Blues have been racking up wins, they’ve actually been one of the lowest-shooting clubs in the league since their run began on January 20, averaging just 24.3 shots per game — just above the 30th ranked Canadiens (24.2 SPG). If those trends hold, we could see a defensive duel with not many chances — or goals — for either side.
