Jets vs Canadiens Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight

The Montreal Canadiens have gotten off to a surprisingly good start and will look to keep that momentum going against Winnipeg. Cole Caufield is fresh off a three-point game, and our NHL picks expect him to stay hot.

The Winnipeg Jets have their sights set on a fourth straight win when they head to Bell Centre to take on the Montreal Canadiens, who have been defying NHL odds left and right with three victories in their last four outings.

Cole Caufield has turned up the heat with five goals and nine points through his first seven games of the season for Montreal, while Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been a big reason for his team’s success of late.

Will Caufield and the Habs solve Hellebuyck, or will Winnipeg extend its win streak? Find out in my Jets vs. Canadiens NHL picks for October 28.

Jets vs Canadiens predictions

Cole Caufield’s hot start to the season got even hotter on Thursday as he potted the overtime winner to go along with two assists in a 4-3 win over the Blue Jackets. The three-point outing was Caufield’s highest total of this young season while he also set a season high with eight shots on net.

That high-volume approach has been one of Caufield’s calling cards — and one of the reasons for his success. The winger leads Montreal with four goals and 27 shots on net... five more shots than any other player on the team and nine more than any other forward.

After a rocky start to the year, the Winnipeg Jets have seemed to turn things around at least for now, and a lot of that credit goes to netminder Connor Hellebuyck.

The former Vezina Trophy winner had his best game of the season on Thursday against the Red Wings, stopping 35 of 36 shots en route to victory. Hellebuyck’s .899 save percentage through six games is less than impressive but he’s been trending upwards over his last three starts.

That said, if the Montreal Canadiens are going to put the puck past Hellebuyck, it’ll likely take a sharpshooter’s touch: which is why I’m banking on Caufield to pick up another goal tonight.

My best bet: Cole Caufield anytime goalscorer (+110 at SIA)

Jets vs Canadiens same-game parlay

Caufield anytime scorer

Connor anytime scorer

Under 6.5

While I'm taking Caufield to score at any time for the Habs, I’ll do the same thing with Kyle Connor for the Jets as part of tonight’s same-game parlay. The Winnipeg sniper has been pretty consistent against Montreal, tallying 10 goals in 19 career meetings. Connor also leads Winnipeg with five goals and 29 shots this season, so he should be their best chance at a goal.

I’ll round out the same-game parlay by taking the Under on 6.5 goals. The Jets and Canadiens have cashed the Under in three straight meetings and four of their last five games, so I expect to see a lower-scoring affair tonight.

Jets vs Canadiens moneyline and Over/Under analysis

The Jets opened as the road favorite at -147 while the Canadiens come into this one at +130 on the moneyline — a good opportunity to roll with the underdog on home ice.

The Habs have historically done well against Winnipeg at Bell Centre, winning four of the last five meetings at home. Meanwhile, the Jets have not necessarily excelled at putting together long winning streaks as they won four or more consecutive games just twice last season, with their most recent run being snapped in early January.

While Winnipeg has turned things around over the last few games, the Jets still own one of the league’s worst defenses this season at 3.43 goals against per game, putting them firmly in the Bottom 10. With capable scorers like Caufield, Sean Monahan, and Nick Suzuki, the Canadiens should be able to put some pucks in Winnipeg's net.

The total opened at 6.5 goals and as mentioned in the same-game parlay, I’m taking the Under tonight. Both clubs rank middle of the pack in goal scoring this season, with the Jets sitting tied for 12th (3.43 gpg) and the Habs tied for 14th (3.14 gpg), so I don’t foresee a crazy high-scoring battle.
